This is another Stone, It is used as an Altar even today. If you look closely, the yellow wax at the base of the stone is were the Mayans still worship, mostly at night. Alright, everyone has asked what I look like. The above is a picture of me in 1987, beside a Stone Stela. This was taken at the entrance of Coba. It was a very hot day, and I was in no mood for this picture, but you do what you have to. The Path is behind me and the Stela. So, as you can see it's jungle. This is the pryamid that has the Stone altar in front. To the left of us was a tunnel for the priests to use that led to their private rooms. These are the square burial stones. They found remains in these squares. There was a whole area of these stone squares in front of the pyramid. In the 1970's Mexico and the United States began a joint research project on these sites. This is one of the pyramids that was left unfinished when the research teams pulled out in the 70's for lack of money from the Mexican and United States Governments. The last we heard National Geographic Society had limited use and or teams working at Coba. I hope in the Future that this Coba site will be investagated more thoughly. Coba is so large I am sure it would take quite a lot of money and more teams from not just Mexico and the U.S. but other countries would need to come on board. This Stela was at the start of our tour, I thought it would be fitting to end the photo line up, To show a modern day Mayan.
